Adam Blalock
Adam grew up in Eastern Washington where he spent his free time exploring the creeks and woodlands surrounding his home. As he grew older, he developed a passion for gardening and plant science, in addition to art. But despite showing early talent for art and being voted “the most artistic” by his high school classmates, he chose to pursue plant science and horticulture.
After earning his M.S. degree and short lived career as a horticulture consultant in Tennessee, Adam realized that his true purpose was to create art. In 2016 he quit his job and moved to Santa Fe, NM, where he was determined to become an artist. After the art school in Santa Fe closed unexpectedly, he moved to Fort Worth, TX to attend the Texas Academy of Figurative Art, an atelier specializing in realism. There, Adam continues his studies and produces work in the manner of the old masters. However, it’s not uncommon for him to occasionally trade in a studio day for a chance to work outdoors.
Due to Adam’s diverse background and interests, his work is influenced by many sources but it’s the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art movement which likely has had the largest impact on his work. Not opposed to using photographs, Adam’s work however does not seek to simply recreate reality. He believe there is a deeper level of truth and honesty when working directly from life. His work seeks to reconfigure the scene before him while harmonizing light and color, rhythm and flow. And also, in response to his deep love for nature, give one the experience of the life force all living beings share.
